Our wedding venue Villa Aurelia is only a 10-25 minute taxi ride from Rome's most iconic sites. Please note there is no parking at our venue. There is more than one Villa Aurelia so please use the exact address (as listed on the Home page) and not the name of the venue. Public transport tickets can be paid for by contactless payment or are available at any metro station. The Uber, ITtaxi, and Freenow applications are operational in Rome for taxi hire. We recommend using the Freenow app. If you are landing at FCO we can recommend taking the Leonardo Express train to Termini or a taxi into the city. Alternatively there is the Terravision Bus to Termini. If you are landing at CIA we recommend taking the Regionale train to Termini or a taxi into the city. From Termini train station the most direct route to Hotel Cloud 7 Roma would be to take bus 71 toward L.Go Chigi and get off at station L.Go Chigi. *Rome is a very safe city on the whole but please be aware areas like Termini Station and other busy tourist areas attract thieves. Keep a close eye on your personal belongings.* We recommend walking the city as its the most convenient mode of transportation (unless you wish to vespa alla Lizzie McGuire) it is also the best way to soak up the culture and see the sites. Rome is basically all cobblestone streets, please pack comfortable footwear.

About Our Venue

Both our ceremony and reception will be held at the magnificent Villa Aurelia. The venue has air-conditioning inside where we will be spending the ceremony and cocktail hour. We will then move on to the dinner which will be held outside, please note there are small stone pebbles in the front drive and at the dinner. The after party will be held inside. You can read about the remarkable history of the Villa below. A small Baroque masterpiece, Villa Aurelia occupies the highest point within the walls of Rome on what is now the property of the American Academy in Rome, one of the leading American overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and humanities. The Villa is used for formal presentations of music, art and scholarship as well as for receptions and dinners. The Villa Aurelia was originally built for Cardinal Girolamo Farnese around 1650. Following the death ofCardinal Farnese in 1668, the property was bought by Count Alessandro Savorelli, who undertook an extensive program of restoration and new construction. Much of the decorative work visible today dates from this time. In 1849 Giuseppe Garibaldi selected the Villa Aurelia as his headquarters for the defense of the Roman Republic against the French Army. As Christopher Hibbert writes in Garibaldi and His Enemies (Little, Brown &amp; Co., 1966; p.83) “Every morning at dawn he would go up to the watch-tower on the roof of the villa where he ‘was immediately greeted by the French sharpshooters who gave him their particular attention all day long’, one of his staff recorded. But Garibaldi, after throwing a glance at the enemy used to light his cigar, which was never extinguished till evening.’ He seemed, in fact, almost to enjoy being under fire, even to be amused by his extraordinary escape from serious injury. ‘The mania on the part of the French for riddling my poor headquarters with bullets, shells and cannon balls sometimes led to amusing scenes,’ he wrote in the Memoirs which Alexandre Dumas so jauntily edited from his manuscripts.” Consequently, there was extensive damage to the villa. Count Savorelli was able to restore the Villa before his death, and it was then sold to the Monte di Pietà, from which it was bought in 1885 by Mrs. Clara Jessup Heyland, an American heiress from Philadelphia. In 1909 upon her death, Mrs. Heyland bequeathed the Villa and its grounds to the American Academy in Rome. The Villa served the Academy – and the city of Rome – well throughout the 20th century. During the First World War it was home to the American Red Cross in Italy. After the war it became home to the Academy Director and his wife as well as the female Rome Prize winners. The rooms on the piano nobile were reserved for official Academy entertaining, and the ground floor rooms for offices and subsequently studios. A music studio was created in 1925; important concerts were regularly given at Villa Aurelia to capacity crowds well into the 1930s. Closed during the Second World War, the Academy and Villa Aurelia reopened in 1945 offering educational programs for American officers and enlisted men. By 1947 the Academy was back in full operation with Villa Aurelia once again the residence of the director and site of official entertaining and presentation of concerts, art and scholarship. We are looking forward to ending our wedding weekend by dining with you all at Hosteria Constanza. Not only does this restaurant have exceptional food, it's located in a Roman historical gem. We couldn't dream up a more authentic roman experience to share with you all. You can read more about the history of this magical place below. The Theater of Pompey was one of the most famous Roman theaters, built around 61 BC by the will of Pompey in the monumental complex of the Champ Martius. The complex included, in addition to the theater, also a temple erected in honor of Venus Victoris, a large quadriportico embellished with fountains and plane trees and the Hecaconstylum (or Portico of the Hundred Columns). Costanza Hostaria, is located inside the Teatro di Pompeo, and will immerse you in the splendor of ancient Rome, accompanying you on a journey steeped in history, culture and good food. The history of the Theater of PompeyLegend has it that during one of the idi of March (44 BC) Julius Caesar was stabbed under the statue of Pompey by Brutus and his companions. After the death of Pompey, the Roman theater was neglected and ended up degrading more and more, but with the advent of Theodoric it was restored and continued to operate until the sixth century AD.The first permanent theater in Rome, with a capacity of 20,000 spectators, the Theater of Pompey has gone through, over time, moments of disuse and disinterest. The attire for this event is casual elegant.

Arrivederci Dinner 

Our wedding day will have a formal dress code. Please wear ankle or floor length dresses and dark colored suits or tuxedos. It will be very warm in Rome in July. The venue has air-conditioning inside where we will be spending the ceremony and cocktail hour. We will then move on to the dinner which will be held outside, so dress with warm weather in mind. There are small stone pebbles in the front drive and at the dinner, please make footwear choices considering this. The after party will be held inside. We ask you to please AVOID wearing light pink/blush/peach colored clothing. All other colors, prints, and styles are welcome. You know us, we love getting dressed up, being fashionable, bold pieces, and lots of sparkle. Please go all out, our wedding is your catwalk.
